MANDELA DAY - 18 JULY 2011

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela gave his life selflessly for the liberation of a people of South Africa. Madiba, as he is affectionately called, spent 67 years working on making the world a better place for all; hence the call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in 2009 that Nelson Mandela’s birthday should be declared “Mandela Day”. In recognition of his birthday and as a birthday gift, communities could then give 67 minutes of their time in acts of goodwill.

The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to "recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better" the Nelson Mandela Foundation said at the launch of the campaign in April 2009. Nelson Mandela feels honoured if the day is utilized to bring together people to fight poverty and promote peace and reconciliation.

As stated by former US president Bill Clinton: "The power of public good does not require public office, just a well-placed heart and a determined mind.”
It cannot be stated any clearer than in Nelson Mandela’s words: “You will achieve more in this world through acts of mercy than you will through acts of retribution.”

This year on Mandela Day, 67 minutes were dedicated to four schools in the township - more than 2000 children were served soup and bread. Shirts and shoes were donated to four schools. The ministry also embarked on a program of touching one school a month; ministering to educators; sharing leadership skills and encouraging them in their important task of influencing children. The 18th July will forever inspire us to be burdened with the plight of the needy. It is a day of lending a helping hand and doing good to those who are in need. The church in particular has an important role to play in participating in activities of doing good to the destitute and the needy. As is the command in Mark 12:29-31 “The most important commandment is this: „Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.‟ The second is equally important: ‟Love your neighbor as yourself.‟ No other commandment is greater than these.”

2 Corinthians 9:7 “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart . . .for God loves a cheerful giver.” Victory Ministries International did “a practical demonstration of the gospel” by providing a warm meal of soup and bread to learners at four township schools. As we quote Madiba: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

A total of 2750 learners were served with soup and bread in New Brighton and in Motherwell. The soup was prepared at the schools by Nomfezeko and David Mabhele, Nobulali Mbali, Buyiswa Keseni, Siphokazi Lugodlo, Lulama Shogole, Nomalizo Joni, Pumla Mavikela and Tembisa September who are all members of Victory Ministries and had availed their time for such purpose. They were assisted by some of the teachers at the schools.

Two schools were chosen from the New Brighton area and two schools were from the Motherwell area. Masangwana Higher Primary School (250 learners) in New Brighton has learners from Grade R to Grade seven. The learners’ parents are mostly single parents who are unemployed or are themselves still at school. The learners come from poverty-stricken homes and the basic need of food is sometimes not fully met.

Ithembelihle High (800 learners) is a High School that is mainly attended by learners from the settlement areas of Chris Hani, Red Location and Kwazakhele. Most of the learners are from homes where unemployment is the order of the day and a proper balanced meal is a luxury.

The other two schools were from Motherwell: Siyaphambili Higher Primary School (500 learners) and Douglas Mbopa High School (1200 learners). The same conditions as in the New Brighton area exist. A further concern is that many of the learners come from child-headed homes. The principals, teachers and learners were all equally surprised to have been spared a thought on the historic day. They appreciated much that they had also received a kind gesture on Mandela Day.

Having been one of those who visited some of the schools, I could not but notice how we manage to live past one another day-by-day and not lift a finger to ease the other’s burden. What happened at the schools was not only ministry to those who were served with soup, but also to those who were serving them. There are so many areas in which we could make a difference in others’ lives. The service provided by Victory Ministries was for only 67 minutes, but so many faces were lit up with smiles. What an imprint it would make in many hearts and societies if more of us could get involved in these acts of goodwill and sow love and care for just 67 minutes.

We can do more to bring about change.

2011 VMI WOMEN'S CONFERENCE

Day one: Sunday, 7 August 2011

This year’s Women’s Conference opened on a whole new level of excellence with drama, dance and music. Sunday evening’s message by Pastor Bev Murrill was phenomenal. Bev leads the CGI movement of Churches with her husband. Bev’s apostolic ministry is expressed as a prolific mentor to leaders across several continents; an author and international conference speaker; founder of Cherish Uganda for abandoned children with AIDS; and the visionary leader for Liberti, a fantastic new magazine for Christian woman.

One of the conference-goers remarked that after sowing for years she got very little in return. She could relate to the 'spirit of Labon'. After twenty years God came through for Jacob by breaking the 'spirit of Labon'. The message was one that led many to do much introspection and see that even though the Laban spirit was going to come after them, they had a choice to stay or to move on. Our past is our past and we cannot look into the rear-view mirror forever. There is a huge windscreen in front of us. A life of abundance that await us. We have a choice to submit to God to be processed and developed.

Day two: Monday, 8 August 2011

The afternoon session was led by Pastor Evie Kesek, a successful business woman in Indonesia. Evie has served pastors and leaders throughout Indonesia imparting fresh zeal keeping them abreast with current moves of God. Her prophetic gifting is able to unite the Body of Christ in the realms of Glory and she carries a breaker anointing. Evie has established many orphanages training and mentoring the children to become successful in education and business. Evie has an ability to impart the life of the Spirit to those she ministers to. Her session was inspiring and uplifting.The message to all was that we could rise up despite adversity and how we could use that adversity to work in our favour. Evening session with Pastor Bev Murrill was in line with Pastor Evie's message. Pastor Bev spoke about Jael and how strategic she was placed to take the enemy out. How ordinary people become heroes; from repentance to healing and deliverance. She spoke about Jael's frustration as a woman, how in her obscurity the very frustration drove her to lead her nation to victory.

Day three: Tuesday, 9 August 2011

Pastor Bev’s message was filled with the grace of God. How we are to speak into adverse situations and if we did not, we would conform to those situations. Once you break out of the box you will never fit back in. Pastor Evie gave valuable grooming tips; practical ways to enhance and improve our physical self. The beauty of knowing that, “I am the apple of God's eye”.

MINISTRY PROFILE: VICTORY MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL

Pastors Jerome and Eunice Liberty are the founders of Victory Ministries International, a global city-based ministry.

In 1978 Jerome Liberty left Port Elizabeth for Johannesburg and has always believed that his stay was a season for equipping and that he would return one day to serve the community with the Word of God. Pastor Jerome returned to Port Elizabeth in 2000 with a mandate to break the curse of poverty and to change the spiritual climate over the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. He says, “I had in my mind a three-year period of equipping. Thirty plus years later I believe that this is the time and season for us to take our communities for God.”

Pastor Jerome functions in the office of Apostle and has a desire to see multitudes of end time financiers raised up just as God had done in his own life. He is a sought after conference speaker both nationally and internationally. His personal testimony is evidence of how he trusted in the vision which God gave him.

Pastor Eunice Liberty stands as a prophetess of the house and is a powerful intercessor. She started a prayer school at the inception of the ministry and a mighty corps of prayer warriors has since been developed. Many faith prayers have been prayed, “speaking those things that be not as though they were”. Today we see the manifestations and stand in awe of God’s faithfulness.

PLANTING OF CHURCHES

On the 11th of February 2001 the birth of Victory Ministries International took place, with the first church being established in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In the very beginning the ministry was graced with International speakers; amongst others Bishop Clarence Mclendon, Dr Creflo Dollar, John Bevere and Zigi Oblander. Two more churches were planted in 2004 in Uitenhage and Cotswold. Grace Chapel in Schauderville, then pastored by the late Pastor Graham Liberty, was adopted by word of prophecy, bringing the network of churches to a total of four.

VICTORY IN FINANCE

Victory in Finance was intended to bring restoration to ‘real people with real needs in search of real victory.’ Victory in Finance presents a message of debt cancellation, breaking the curse and taking the church to another dimension in worship. The vision is to shepherd the flock, train a community of believers, raise-up end-time financiers, equip leaders and preach the Gospel. If people would understand and apply God’s principles pertaining to finances, then an army of believers would be raised and a whole city would be taken for Jesus.

BILLIONAIRES-IN-TRAINING PROGRAMME

This initiative came about as a move to transform the marketplace and for the children of God to take up their rightful place. Billionaires-In-Training is a ground breaking vision originated by God and given to Apostle Jerome Liberty to prepare the next generation of billionaires within the Body of Christ in South Africa - the Apostles of the Marketplace.

Billionaires-in-Training is just one of many ways of equipping and raising billionaires in the Eastern Cape and beyond its borders. The first billionaires-in-training was held in 2008 and drew a crowd of more than 1400 people. The speakers were Dr Elijah Morgan, Apostle Cedrick Taylor and Apostle Jerome Liberty.

Marketplace transformation brings a marketplace message that is intended to change mindsets and to focus on the assignment of the Marketplace Apostle. It is intended for those with a strong desire and passion to achieve more than average business and financial prosperity. People learn how to become a good steward of finances, to break generational curses of poverty over a family lineage, to take back business domains and bring it under Kingdom rule.

RESTORATION CONFERENCE

It’s been eleven years since the inception of the very first Restoration Conference in 2000. Since then thousands of lives have been changed. In pastor Jerome’s own words: “I believe that through Restoration we will raise up gates of righteousness and touch this generation through a powerful presentation.” Since 2000 gifted local and international speakers such as Dr Creflo Dollar, Pastor Michael Pitts, Bishop Harry Jackson, Bishop Walter Henderson, Dr Mensa Otabil, Dr Pat Francis, Amanda Buys, John Bevere, Bishop Tudor Bismark, Pastor Tommy Tenney, Dr Allan Bag and Prophet Ed Traut have graced the podium at Restoration Conferences.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

“Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Has anyone seen anything like this? A country born in a day? A nation born in a flash? But Zion was barely in labor when she had her babies!” Isaiah 66:8 MSG

Ministry finds its meaning within the communities. Victory Ministries becomes a relevant and practical demonstration of the gospel through its various programs that are aimed at uplifting and empowering the communities. In 2001, when many families were left homeless by shack fires, the ministry was there to be a hand, supplying food and blankets; but mostly preaching the gospel and many gave their lives to Christ. The local communities were also invaded through outreaches and crusades. Thousands came to repentance at these outreaches. People were added daily to the church.

Inspired by his passion to take the city for Jesus, Pastor Jerome embarked on “using every available means to reach every available person at every available time” by making the Word accessible to unbelievers and needy people. The Bible distribution Initiative channeled thousands of Bibles to old age homes, frail care centres, hospitals, taverns, Aids havens and to prisons, even as far as Middledrift and the Free State. The first Bible was handed to the then mayor, Honourable Nondumiso Maphazi. Pastor Jerome has also had the privilege of handing J.C. Maxwell leadership bibles to the then Premier of the Eastern Cape, Mrs Nosimo Balindlela, the then Minister of Finance, Mr Trevor Manuel and the President of South Africa, Gedleyihlekisa Jacob Zuma.

HOME CELLS

Home cells are the heartbeat of the ministry. Time and money has been invested in training home cell leaders. The ultimate aim is to have a home cell in every street in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. There is a total of 138 home cells across the metro area which include Centenary, Cotswold, Grace Chapel, and Uitenhage. Theses home cells are co-ordinated by more than 12 married couples. Our goal for 2012 is to have increased our home cells to a total of 293.

MOBILE CLINIC

The mobile clinic which is managed with the assistance of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, is another initiative that demonstrates Matthew 25: 35-36 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” The mobile clinic brings much needed relief to poor communities who are not in a position to gain access to healthcare or a clinic.

There are 3 staff members attending to patients. They see 700 patients per month from the truck. The first patients seen were in the Joe Slovo area (160 patients per day). The mobile truck has been running for ten years and is regularly being used during campaigns such as Restoration, Helenvale invasion, big church events, and municipality events.

The truck provides medication in areas where clinics are not easily reachable. Areas serviced by the truck are Joe Slovo, Kwadwesi extension, Red location, Kwanoxolo, Kleinskool, Booysen Park, Phola Park and Greenfields. Treatments include immunisations, family planning, and general health including TB treatment. HIV Aids campaign twice per month.

RESTORATION LEARNING ACADEMY

In 2002 the Restoration Learning Academy launched a program for those who never had a chance to complete grade 12. Many people have gone through these classes and have advanced on to further their studies at college and university.

A further initiative of the ministry, EXCEL, is a program that assists learners who are in grade 12 and are preparing for end of the year exams. There are a total of 6 teachers. Classes start from 4:30PM until 7:30PM on week days. The Adult Learning School provides NATED 550 (old curriculum). Subjects include English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting, Business Economics, Economics, Biblical Studies, History, and Geography. There was no assistance for learners who failed subjects in the new NCS curriculum. As of 2011 we provide classes for them as well. Learners are allowed to take a maximum of 3 subjects per year. With the new curriculum we offer Mathematics, Mathematical literacy, Business studies, Accounting and Life Science.

On 13 November 2011, more than 300 teachers from schools in the Northern Areas will be acknowledged for their contribution towards education at a church service.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

The Helenvale Peace Initiative is a collaborative effort between the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Victory Ministries International (VMI). Other stakeholders are businesses, school principals, taxi operators and community leaders. Pastor Jerome says, “Having grown up and attending school in Gelvandale and Helenvale, I always believed that Helenvale was an uncut diamond, waiting to be discovered by the nations of the world.”

A five-year-plan was launched during which period several initiatives will be undertaken to give the community a “facelift”. It entails unearthing the spiritual strongman and every root of ungodliness prevalent in the area. The Helenvale community brings a positive message that says: “NO” to vandalism, drugs, rape, crime, gangsterism, theft, and pornography.” What is about to transpire in Helenvale will be a milestone that will plot a chapter in history; of a once hopeless community that has been restored in dignity, self-worth and in heritage.

Numerous outreach events including a talent competition was held at various schools. It is safe to say that the face of Helenvale was finally discovered through the hopes, dreams and God-given talent of so many children and the youth.

Since the Helenvale campaign the ministry kept it pulse on a number of schools via a dedicated youth team that resulted in a relationship being forged with TADA (Teenagers Against Drugs). Many learners are being assisted with rehabilitation through referrals to TADA. From the interaction with the schools many learners have been assisted in acquiring skills, amongst others beadwork and computer skills.

THE TENT

The first destruction of the tent happened on a Saturday, July 2002. The tent had just been cleaned in preparation for a mighty healing crusade by Pastor Charles Ndifon. Reparations to the tent were done speedily as there was not much time left before the actual crusade.

The second and total destruction happened two days before the crusade. It was perfect weather until a gale force wind wreaked havoc. Congregants were gathered in a container serving as a classroom, praying, whilst the wind blew with phenomenal force. The big billboard next to Stanford Road was blown into the street. It was as if the tent was meticulously split from top to bottom. Metal poles were bent as if it were straw. Chairs were blown into the road and electrical pipes and cables were crushed and damaged by falling poles.

In the midst of all the rubble and destruction, the Apostle's voice arose in triumph, singing: “Our God reigns. . .” Everybody put their hand to the plough - working until late that night - salvaging what they could. Since then services are being held at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton.

NEW WORSHIP AUDITORIUM

A new Worship Auditorium has been built on the site where the tent was. The auditorium is about 80% complete with a capacity to seat 2850 people. The cost of building runs up to R25 million and completion is expected in early 2012.

On 30 October 2011, a celebration service was held at the site of the new Worship Auditorium. Proverbs 24:16 says “for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again...” The construction of the new Worship Auditorium can be seen in the same light.

REVOLUTION VISITS EP CHILDREN’S HOME

Friday night, 4 March 2011 will be remembered by the children of the EP Children’s Home as a night to remember. The Revolution Youth group from Victory Ministries International hosted a party and evening of music. Presents were handed out to the children with smiles all over. Wesley Louw, a youth member said he was greatly honoured to be part of the impact and that it is in essence an evangelistic outreach. Chantelle Jegels, a youth leader said “What an awesome night we had just to see the appreciation from those kids made it a memorable event. Revolution Youth, you rock!”

They plan to continue this interaction with the children and are hoping to invite them to come to church. From the pictures it is evident that this outreach was a huge success. Congratulations REVOLUTION!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: The Helenvale Peace Initiative

The Helenvale Peace Initiative is a collaborative effort between the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Victory Ministries International (VMI). Other stakeholders are tavern owners, shop owners, school principals, taxi operators and community leaders. There were unfortunately no buy-in from clergy and pastors as even they are resistant to the move because VMI is involved.

A five-year-plan is being developed, during which period several initiatives will be undertaken to give Helenvale and the community a “facelift”. The whole process entails the unearthing of the spiritual history of Helenvale, the spiritual strongman and every root of ungodliness prevalent in the area. Research will also be conducted in order to deal best with the socio-economic challenges experienced by the Helenvale-community. An album of the NOW and AFTER will be developed; spanning the five year period.

Too little is said that we present the Kingdom of God in order to bring about change. A line is being drawn against all types of crime; amongst others, murder, rape, drug abuse and drug trafficking. The community has now been mobilised into an “uprising” against grudges, crime, rape, murder, teenage pregnancies, and gangsterism.

The relevant stakeholders, school principals, the SAPS, various interest groups and the clergy and pastors have been drawn into several meetings in order to come up with strategies to impact Helenvale.

The Helenvale Peace Initiative is one of the first peaceful demonstrations to be held against the crime that is prevalent in the area. NO will be promoted as a positive message – applying Focault’s theory of taking advantage of “power from the bottom”- believing that the people can do it themselves. The community brings a positive message that says: “NO to vandalism, drugs, rape, crime, gangsters, stolen goods, guns and pornography!”

The initiative is to restore order and to add value to Helenvale and its surroundings. What is about to transpire in Helenvale will be a milestone that will plot a chapter in history; of a once hopeless community that has been restored in dignity, self-worth and in heritage.

This initiative marks the beginning of a three month drive, with the objective of winning the trust of the different role players in the Helenvale community. Two major outreach events were held recently; the schools outreach and a talent competition were excellently attended by thousands of youngsters.

On Saturday, 19 February, Brigadier Neveling, station commander at Gelvandale police station, reported that crime has dropped significantly since the first joint event by VMI and the SAPS. Brigadier Neveling informed the crowd that no crimes were reported in Helenvale on the day of the Peace Initiative. It is safe to say that the face of Helenvale was finally discovered through the hopes, dreams and God-given talent of so many children and the youth.

A Port Elizabeth Northern areas teenage rapper and his mother have become local heroes in troubled Helenvale after they visited 10 local schools with a powerful message that “genoeg is genoeg” (enough is enough). Jean-Mikyle Roos, 16, who penned the poignant “Genoeg is genoeg” rap song, and his mother Patricia Arnold, accompanied police and church representatives in a week-long school visit campaign aimed at encouraging learners to participate in a high-profile talent contest sponsored by Victory Ministries International (VMI). Jean, a Grade 10 learner at Andrew Rabie High School, had special permission from his school to participate in the school visits.

Patricia told the school children how she was raped at the age of 12 and became addicited to drugs thereafter until she became a follower of Jesus Christ in 2003, by which time she was popping 40 tablets a day. Jean rapped about it being time to have done with hunger, hopelesness, murder, drugs, gangs and jail.

“It had a great impact on the children because it spoke about their lives. They were excited and sang the chorus while I rapped. And while my mom spoke they listened attentively: I could see that some of them had been through what she shared,” said Jean. Many of the children responded to invitations to share their problems with Patricia and were now undergoing counselling for rape, sexual abuse and other serious problems. Jean said he had become a Christian himself six years ago after he saw the huge difference that Jesus had made in his mother’s life.

On Saturday, 19 February, Jean performed his signature rap song on a specially erected stage in front of a crowd of 3 000 people who gathered in a local park to attend VMI’s Helenvale Peace Initiative talent show. Jean said many Helenvale schoolchildren who attended were visibly moved by the day’s events which showed them that there was more to aim at in life than becoming a gangster. He said he noticed a number of “big gangsters” in the audience and could see that they too were touched. He said police reported that in stark contrast to the norm, no crimes were recorded in the area that Saturday.

In a future edition of Gateway News we will post a video clip of Jean performing his famous rap and we will publish the words, which include the following chorus line:

Genoeg is genoeg, kom ons almal staan saam
Daas baie wat se Helenvale vergaan
So kom ons maak vrede vergeet die verlede
en maak ‘n verskil in mekaar se lewe.

Jean’s father, Fabian Arnold, who said he had also been a drug and alcohol abuser before he became a Christian, said he was very proud of what Jean and Patricia had achieved. As a staff member of VMI he was actively involved in the church’s work to uplift the area


In addition to the Helenvale Peace Initative which was offering positive alternatives to children, VMI is tackling the drug problem by producing a drug awareness DVD. A team of people including former addicts, churchmen, legal professionals and teachers are collaborating on the DVD which would deal with knowledge about the different types of drugs on the streets, how to identify warning signs of drug problems, and how to deal with problems. The project was undertaken after consultation with local school principals.

VMI will continue meeting with twenty school principals to address socio economic challenges in the area. Watch this space for more news on VMI’s intervention of restoring God’s peace and the fear of the Lord.

Thank you for modeling God’s Word to us, for you “…let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”
Our prayer is that you keep on touching lives, beyond the boundaries of Victory Ministries; we pray that God may open doors of utterance in far off nations. You inspire the Church in many ways and one can only marvel at God’s love displayed through you.

I trust this will be an awesome week of breakthroughs. Whatever it is that limits you, know that God is bigger than that. This week I believe the Evangelist is awake inside of you and you will become a lifeline to a few people. I believe God for 100 salvations for this week!

I encourage you to be diligent and on a spiritual high alert to win souls. I sense in my heart we need to go into a second season of fasting. This second season will release a powerful demonstration of His Kingdom, and when God’s Kingdom shows up every evil assignment loses its power!

Walk by faith and stay in the faith zone. Anything done outside of faith is sin; without faith it is impossible to please Him. I was so blessed by the word of Dr. Theo Wolmarans and his testimony that he reads the New Testament every month. That certainly inspired me to read the Word more regularly. I want to encourage you to attempt to read the book of Matthew for this week. The entire book of Matthew and share with us what is God saying to you.

Let us fill ourselves up with the Word!

HELENVALE PEACE INITIATIVE: DRUG ABUSE

Warning Signs of Teenage Drug Abuse
Please note that even though some of these warning signs of drug abuse may be present in your teen, it does not mean that they are definitely abusing drugs. There are other causes for some of these behaviours. Even the life stage of adolescence is a valid reason for many of them to exist.
However, do not ignore the warning signs of teenage drug abuse. If six (6) of these signs, (not all in the same category), are present for a period of time, you should talk to your teen and / or seek some professional help.

Signs in the Home
• Loss of interest in family activities
• Disrespect for family rules
• Withdrawal from responsibilities
• Verbally or physically abusive
• Sudden increase or decrease in appetite
• Disappearance of valuable items or money
• not coming home on time
• Not telling you where they are going
• Constant excuses for behavior
• Spending a lot of time in their rooms
• Lies about activities
• Finding the following: cigarette rolling papers, pipes, roach clips, small glass vials, plastic baggies, remnants of drugs (seeds, etc.)

Signs at School
• Sudden drop in grades
• Truancy
• Loss of interest in learning
• Sleeping in class
• Poor work performance
• not doing homework
• Defiant of authority
• Poor attitude toward sports or other extracurricular activities
• Reduced memory and attention span
• Not informing you of teacher meetings, open houses, etc.

Physical and Emotional Signs
• Changes friends
• Smell of alcohol or marijuana on breath or body
• Unexplainable mood swings and behavior
• Negative, argumentative, paranoid or confused, destructive, anxious
• Over-reacts to criticism acts rebellious
• Sharing few if any of their personal problems
• Doesn't seem as happy as they used to be
• Overly tired or hyperactive
• Drastic weight loss or gain
• Unhappy and depressed
• Cheats, steals
• Sloppiness in appearance

HELENVALE PEACE INITIATIVE

The Apostle Paul said that "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (of a fleshly or earthly nature), but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds" (2 Cor. 10:4)

The Helenvale Peace Initiative is a collaborative effort between the SAPS and Victory Ministries International.

A five-year-plan is being developed, during which period several initiatives will be undertaken to give Helenvale and the community a “facelift”. This initiative marks the beginning of a three month drive, with the objective of winning the trust of the different role players in the Helenvale community. The whole process entails the unearthing of the spiritual history of Helenvale, the spiritual strongman and every root of ungodliness prevalent in this area. Research will also be conducted in order to deal best with the socio-economic challenges experienced by the Helenvale-community. An album of the NOW and AFTER will be developed; spanning the five year period.

A line is being drawn against all types of crime; amongst others, murder, rape, drug abuse and drug trafficking. The initiative is to restore order and to add value to Helenvale and it’s surroundings. What is about to transpire in Helenvale will be a milestone that will plot a chapter in history; of a once hopeless community that has been restored in dignity, self-worth and in heritage.

The relevant stakeholders, school principals, the clergy and pastors, the SAPS and various interest groups, have been drawn into several meetings in order to come up with strategies to impact Helenvale.

The Helenvale Peace Initiative is one of the first peaceful demonstrations to be held against crime that is prevalent in the area. “NO” will be promoted as a positive message - applying Focault’s theory of taking advantage of “power from the bottom” - believing that the people can do it themselves.

The community says: “NO to vandalism, drugs, rape, crime, gangsters, stolen goods, guns and pornography!” Watch this spot for more news on this intervention of restoring God’s peace and the fear of the Lord.

For many years you have sown various seeds into our ministry, amongst others, financially, enabling us to reach the community with the gospel and a mobile clinic. Your generosity has also assasted us in the building of our worship auditorium which is still work-in-progress.

The Berean Family has been the greatest sower into our ministry.

May blessings be on your head as you are righteous. Continue to walk in integrity as you walk securely. May hope bring you joy and the way of the Lord remain your stronghold. "You will never be removed." (Prov. 10:30)

We pray that the reward for humility and the fear of the Lord, which is riches and honor and life, be upon you, your children and generations to come.

THANKSGIVING DAY FOR THE SAPS AT VMI

The time has come for the church to address social problems within our communities. The church therefore has to act as an agent of change in the city. In consequence it calls for reconciliation and zero-tolerance towards crime and corruption.


Pastor Jerome Liberty led a Thanksgiving Service for the South African Police Services at the Great Centenary Hall (renamed Nangoza Jebe) in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. The aim of the service was to:

• Establish a working relationship between the police and the church;

• Narrow the gap between the police and the community;

• Pray for protection and blessing over the men and women who risk their lives to protect us.

The scripture in Ephesians 4:18 reminds us that “He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labour, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.” Prayers of protection and boldness were thus released over the police in their fight against crime, and their role as peacemakers in our community. The Bible declares that “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9). Another assurance comes from Isaiah 54:17 that declares: “No weapon forged against you will prevail.” (Isaiah 54:17).

The congregation including the men and women in the police force were encouraged by the scripture: “I will be strong and courageous. I will not be terrified, or discouraged; for the Lord my God is with me wherever I go.” (Joshua 1:9).

The following declarations were made over the police:

• No more police deaths;

• Every crime syndicate be exposed;

• The abuse against women and children crimes be down to zero;

• Every police be healed of work related depression;

• They be blessed in their finances;

• That corrupt policemen that put the lives of their colleagues in danger, be removed;

• No overcrowded prisons in Port Elizabeth;

• That our justice system shall not fail;

• Governmental order in every police station in Port Elizabeth.

The congregation was challenged to expose the works of crime in our communities; to sound the alarm at evil and take back our city from evil-doers. “Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations. But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come upon them.” (Proverbs 24:24-25).

Believers were called to respect law and order, help the police do their work, and not to speak badly of the whole police force if one of them did wrong. “Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not causes of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.” (Romans 13:1-3).

In conclusion, each policeman and woman were handed John Maxwell Study Bibles as a gift from Victory Ministries International.

LADIES CONFERENCE (19-20 NOVEMBER 2010)

This year’s Ladies Conference held at the VMI Cotswold church in Port Elizabeth, was an inspiring and uplifting event. Believers showcased their dancing, drama and comedic skills, shared their testimonies, whilst business women displayed their latest creations and products.


Over this weekend much was learned from these ladies who shared their life stories with us. The various experiences they went through ranged from being raped at an early age, nearly dying prematurely, being abused (sexually, emotionally, physically, verbally, mentally, spiritually), being violated, having relationship troubles, to having been told that they will amount to nothing (being labelled). These ladies faced many challenges from childhood to womanhood. Some had to face the embarrassment, humiliation and shame of their partners committing adultery, and raising their children as a single parent. Many had to step up and take the role of the mother and in the process being robbed of their childhood. Others had to take care of their siblings due to either one parent walking out or a parent that was addicted to alcohol and drugs. Some ladies took refuge in alcohol, medication, smoking and various other substances abuse just to “get rid” of the depression (causing them to become sick, see suicide as the only way out, and almost giving up on God and life).

The talk by Elvy Van der Brook on stress and depression highlighted the following:

• We are responsible to look after ourselves as women as no one will do it for you.

• We need to listen to our bodies for example – fatigue, panic, sleep deprivation, and know when to focus on your needs as women.

• Take stock of where we are and assess why we’re feeling the way we are.

• Not to give our authority to someone else and allow them to exercise pressure on us.

Death (either the death of a parent, child or someone close) has also been one of the major issues these ladies had to deal with. Many of these ladies that have been afflicted in their childhood made wrong choices growing up, but God turned things around for them. Many of them (whilst growing up) never finished their schooling or studies, but when they came to repentance God allowed them to go back and finish their studies.

In conclusion we have learnt that:

• Forgiveness is a key factor in our walk with God. Unforgiveness can keep us in bondage and block the blessing of God upon our lives.

• Forgiveness starts with us; we have to forgive ourselves first before we are able to forgive those that trespassed against us. We read in Matthew 6:14, “For if you forgive people their trespasses (their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment), your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”

• Our Faith has been stretched because we tend to think what we are going through or have gone through is a lot until we hear the testimony of someone else. It is only then that we realise our situation is very minimal or insignificant as opposed to theirs.

• We’ve come to realise once again that we are strong and courages women and the harder the knock that Satan gives us the greater we bounce back.

• We have learnt that it’s never too late; we can pick up where we left off.

• We must not allow the enemy to minister to us when we are going through the valley.

Inspiring messages of hope and survival came from these women. It is safe to say that many of them should have lost their minds, but God RESTORES, HEALS, DELIVERS and RESURRECTS. Jeremiah 29:11 proclaims: “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord,” His plans are to prosper us and not to harm us.

We are victorious women and we are more than conquerors through Christ who strengthens us. God bless.

RESTORATION 2010 A HUGE SUCCESS

On Sunday evening, Restoration 2010 kicked off at the Great Centenary Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. Pastor Jerome & Eunice Liberty with Apostle John Eckhardt witnessed the anointed Revolution Worship Team and Dancers open the Conference with their musical and dancing talent. The hall was filled to capacity as everybody broke into praise and worship.

The Restoration Conference started on 24th October and ended on 27 October with a service at the Centenary Hall. During the day there were Workshops held at the Cotswold VMI Church. Apostle John Eckhardt blessed the Pastoral couple and the Church with a message of a NEW VISION, NEW BUILDING, NEW ANOINTING, NEW BIRTH and A NEW ROD.
The saints were blessed with a supernatural message from Apostle John Eckhardt: "Your "Perez" meaning breakthrough and "Bonanza" meaning a sudden happening that brings prosperity, is here!"
